A lot depends on the actual home they're in. My mom was in a really nice care home in Victoria BC. They had lots of activities people could sign up for and they'd go on field trips. I was really happy to see my mom listed as one of the people who wanted school kids to come and see her when they came on field trips. I think she liked the company.
