01 Dodge Tail lights

Old Doug ยท 2015-09-21 19:08

A buddy of mine had a flat bed put on his 01 Dodge pickup that had 4 lights in the tail end and 2 up on the headacke rack they are led. They flashed very fast so he found some deals to wire from ground to turn signal wire to slow them down. I did this for him and it worked. A week later he has no brake lights on the bed turnsignals steal work but the brake light on the cab steal works. I had a little time today and found the problem is in the cab maybe turnsignal switch or brake light switch ? What ever it is was the problem something to do with the 6 leds? Maybe some one puting a service bed on has had this problem before.

Not sure if this helps with all your troubles but they make led flashers to slow down the fast blinking. LEDs don't draw much juice so they tend to blink like mad without the right flasher.

He droped it of late today he had his brother faller him to the shop so he would have a ride home said the brake lights work. The joy of trying to fixes something that works intermittently.

start looking for those #%%^#@$& ***%^^& "blue scotch locks" all the body/wiring guys seem to love cause they get the job done & they don't have to ever look at them again. those things are very good for business tho!!

a solid state flasher relay will fix your flashing...

Your brake lights are just your turn signals held on usually so messing with your signals probably affected your brake lights. Installing the proper relay and getting rid of that farmer fix you did should fix all your problems.

Many year ago I went to all led turn signals on my KW dump. Tried a half dozen flashers and none quite worked right. I wired up a couple pigtails in the light box for a 2" round marker light. That gave me the resistance I needed and returned everything to normal with the OE flasher.
