Have a Cat 12A series 955 Traxcavator. Runs and steers good. Brakes both work but right brake regularly seems to bind up and then pop with a loud bang. Pulled inspection plates at the rear, both brakes look fine to me. Measure 0.3" from drum to outside of band, about half of that is brake lining. Rivets being brass, seems it should be ok to wear the brakes down till they no longer grab. Perhaps I should try squirting some diesel or brake cleaner between drum and brake band? Have a couple hours on this newly aquired machine, it will only see occasional use, symptom does not seem to be changing. Could live with the popping, but don't want to damage anything.
