Hi guys.... have read over this forum and others for ideas, but want to get more input. recently acquired this backhoe and in general it ran/runs pretty well. however, it leaked everywhere. replaced about 6 hydraulic hoses and replaced the fluid and now that seems under control however, over the years, it looks like someone did some home brew work on engine and fuel system. It leaks fuel pretty heavily. after degreasing and cleaning engine as best as possible. I have the general area located. but after cleaning all the gunk away, it's a little depressing on what all needs to be done to get it back to 'original spec.' the leaks seem to mostly originate near the injectors. but I do not see fuel sediment bowel and it seems maybe there are some other part 'unwired' or missing. any advise would be much appreciated. is this common on the 188 engines and what is best way to 'fix' all the fuel leaking out ?
The injectors are linked together w/ "T"s & either clamps or screwed together.. They are sealed at the T w/a rubber grommet.. They might just need to be tightened using 2 wrenches.. OR the grommets may be dry & leaking.. ya wont know till you take to cover off & dive into it.. There is no sediment bowl.. normally 2 filters
you are correct. it does have filter. and it is starting to look like possibly the fuel pump itself is leaking.....
Seeing theres no lift pump on it.. I'm assuming you mean the injection pump? The weak spot on them is> the throttle shaft orings.. easy to replace w/ alittle guidance.. BUT> if they're hard, flat & leaking.. so aren't all the others.. & its common to stop 1 leak & then they spring up somewhere else.. BUT> a lot of folks have good luck just replacin'm.. Let me know if you wanna tackle it.. TPG
yes, injection pump. I was looking at prices for one.......ouch
Its all in who ya know.. ya see my screen name??
Actually this machine typically had a sediment bowl right on the bottom of the tank prior to the filter I think. The plug in the block w/ the square hole in it is where your block heater goes. But I just looked and you are in Texas so there is probably not much need for that!
Pumpguy has shamelessly exposed himself to you. He's offering to help you with your pump issues. Might want to take him up on that offer.
it will be another week or so, but if pump needs rebuild, etc. he's the guy ill work with
