1969 case 580ck fuel issues

n8obu · 2021-09-26 20:14

i have read threw every thread i can here and did not see this issue covered any place , ok i just became the owner of a 580ck that has a few issues the one that i need to tackle right now is a fueling issue, i drove this unit 20 miles home in pouring rain so i did not run wide open on the road home , ok here is the issue was running the back hoe digging a hole and a few times it acted like it was running out of fuel , rpms changed some times higher and some times lower this is not due to the hyd pump loading the engine down i retired from working on heavy equipment 22 plus years and hold ase certs , so i did the first obvious thing i replaced both filters and took the bolt out of the 2nd filter untill all the air was out of the system took about 30 minutes i thought it was a bit long bit being gravity feed i ran with it it fired up did not miss a beat so i thought the issue was gone but i went to push up a brush pile and it stalled two times while i was pushing on the foot pedal not loaded down from pushing it did start back both times but acted like low fuel issue again ,i pulled the line off the injector pump and i have great gravity flow, drained the lower sump on the fuel tank it was clean from that i could tell . their is no fuel pump on this unit, and i know the fuel shut off is not the cause it acted up while digging too. it starts up faster than any diesel i have seen in any weather and only has normal smoke looking for ideas on what to check next i don't want to ruin the pump starving it for fuel i even thought about adding a 3 psi electric pump? give me your best shot , thanks mike

2 different pumps jc.. that thread is for a CAV DPA pump.. w a plastic screen.. This poster has a RoosaMaster pump.. all b it, it does has a wire screen under the inlet nut, I’ve never seen 1 plugged. That’s why I skip over it in my diagnostic work.. To the poster:: remove the return line coming off the injector that connects to the return line.. Look inside.. u might find it’s PACKED W OLD FLEX RING MATERIAL. Here’s hoping for the best..

well i found the issue and it was a bug.. in the elbow at the top of the filter were the fuel enters the first filter , i got to thinking it took a long time to fill the filters when i changed them so i pulled both filters and turned the fuel on it just dripped out si i took the line from the tank off and had lots of fuel so i removed the elbow and looked in it ... plugged cleaned the two bugs out and put it back together. i hope this will be the end of that issue next to fix gauges and hook up all the wiring.

Here ya go ! Maybe.Because I have no idea if the tachometer cable will fit your drive on the engine. Even if it doesn't the other gauges are worth the price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264828745736?_trkparms=ispr=1&hash=item3da905f808:g:at4AAOSwe7tfNUy2&amdata=enc:AQAGAAACoPYe5NmHp%2B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsStdebXPz4ZTXCT8FI9kPBh2wXikZMDn%2BZUjqtyXEx6ktpuwyRjn4UUMDLm5YLv0ZnSjWj34Bw6kOm9tBO%2FfVBwISt2zPiVO9mMx2%2BCSRCyyIIRJjSZkrti0Llh59dJ%2BDz9ViMYeK%2Biy6k1xWUPKN3%2Fs1owEPEkY4U9%2FxlkZ99N3KiyBQXrVmlYsOuzgvNWQsuLVq68izb%2BVJPv9es%2FJyx88yu%2FwpnqSo43NWsfD%2FIjxWYefhVOSwrlLygxY3vvhZgB1a8YrzjFExELBWcj9tFIXSV3%2FySgbI%2F1S7jRIklPxM%2Bz9m9KlNqQC2vLiVlnSyc5Ncj9dvIB7g00rh0VwAU%2Bv5LhvRRlHvmN1aSYdOfxmEm4BaEWdv%2FvJt5AQczyIRCbmrJKnSk6Z2%2BcOtZ5W6OB91%2BgrsSV4UKdhb2i6BW0NnP11UFYsrVCEu3frjD8ZyT23YkXkAiR%2Fdtl9yr0EbAGlO1hBzmW4L8NsiCcv1kvtMHqj%2FuRI5uAvvJeReHONLqygFzrLgDTXs8JGIJfR5CI3dg5H0GiOgX2x0UyAa3EXnGkj9ZPyPc0LwA6VRwnyUyciHorg%2Ft%2BRDKubk5WMSfCPyrATOczXhS1psxdKloR25xshHTQx%2FRn%2BWHrQd9bxbweOG9AcSy%2F%2FvZ7CTiZcZofkSAW8rhO6aa2LoLfUz8KkANVMg8zS1PB1h0Q0yqdUd2SKOObXe9spDRpbtF9qJcJC9sQZYAUgVtHCmSAt3vMYBpjsEmSZRwq8LDr5fnXCevtP5uRdBVvRC2%2BSDtKLZaY%2FtGfHWj5axziWRTivrXXk3DRH1GS%2BbcjpORCbRZcUg6JqhOh6uk0uqzRjgCOQWugw%3D%3D|ampid L_CLK|clp:2334524

I wasn't throwing shade at your Google drive, just suggesting an alternative, if you don't have WIFI or a printer in your shop and you aren't a slave to the smart phone, "THE BOOKS" are nice to have at your disposal...just sayin'

I know you weren't stinky64. I prefer paper books myself. But, .pdf manuals are very portable and can be put on a CD or thumb drive and viewed on a laptop anywhere. Sadly, newer laptop computers do not have disk drives in them. I am sure there are members that don't have the money it takes to buy printed manuals. That is one of the reasons I make mine available.
