Hello im sure this may be a long shot as i have found nearly nothing on this model on the internet but another post on this site for at least the same main model. Currently this machine has zero brakes and (im presuming its the inching block) zero inching block function. I found it to have just above zero fluid in the brake master reservoir. i need to find non rusted shut bleeders and that may fix much of the bleeding issue as i even pulled em to the last thread and they didnt want to bleed much. ( i know it wont really bleed well but just checking for fluid push). There is zero resistance in the pedal but the master deems to move fluid out and will get alot pushed back into it / large bubbles. its hard to tell in the outdoor light if it was bubbles from below or just the fast inrushing causing it to push fluid above the level and make bubble noises. Now it does have a leak on the inching block that seems to not be from the bango bolt but from the fwd/rev selector pin going into it, also a concern since i have zero manuals or documentation on it to even try to find a rebuild/reseal kit for it. Not sure if anyone has a connection somewhere for info or where to get service manuals on this old of a model. I also really want to remove the wheels and check the brakes and wheel cylinders as i dont think it has ever been serviced but i believe with what i found in pictires online i have to remove the hubs which is perfectly fine but i dont have a spec to retorque them to and for some reason im not sure if my 1 ton stationwagon spec of 50lbs to seat the bearings and then 5lb preload is enough ( or its too much). Im sure i worded this terribly so TLDR 1-- is there a trick to get fluid pressure on this machine and how does one bleed the inching block when there is no bleed screw on it. 2-- Does anyone know hub torques / know where to get a service manual for specs and part lists as i can find some parts but is only by part number and not model. This is eating at me as i do much more car mechanic stuff but have done lift and skid steer stuff before ( although i could find the manuals on those models) and i cant tell if its me failing or there is a trick/specific method to get this brake system to function. Oh side note part of what throws me is every mention of a inching system has a seperate pedal. This one only has a single pedal that runs brakes and inching through a single manual master cylinder. So short of buying the whole system over which id have to guess if it fits or not when ordering i cant pin point a specific failure of anything yet ( besides the one leak) Thank you in advance for anyone who might be able to help or just ask questions about it/what i have tried and maybe lead me in the right direction.
I will try to help you. I had my own shop for 14 years and actually we had a customer with one of these. Send me a pic of the truck as a right side view. Send a pic looking down into the space with floorboard removed.. Send a pic of the data plate if there, or a pic of the FULL serial number. Email to [email protected]
I am sorry it took me a hot minute to add more, busy work weekend. But i did get it up and the front tires off, this lift does live outside so it never sees indoors. Seems this has slip off drums which is quite nice, the bleeder screws work now and the first pump or 2 it flowed good solid fluid but then was very weak. So im leaning towards the master has failed but then theres the second line out the back that has me hesitating. The wheel cylinders dont seem to be leaking and everything is dirty but its all very old accumulation of junk, nothing is actively wet. But heres the lift itself and the pics of the secondary line are not great but its buried in there and without a direct reason i didnt want to take off the whole top section yet. -- and sorry the notes look bad its harder than it looks to write with a mouse.
pics round 2
the secondary brake line which i believe is the inching valve system doesnt seem to be leaking externally, the forward reverse selector in front of it though does have a seep leak it seems by the wet patterns. Both before and after the failed attempt at a quick bleed just for giggles both sides do push on the drums enough so they dont spin by hand and cant be pulled off, i know thats like 1/2 a pound of force but its at least trying something at the wheel cylinders.
Thanks for the pics and info. Was going to tell you, you could unscrew the bleeders, take them to a parts house and get complete replacement one. The m/cyl and wheel cyl should be indexed at a NAPA store for kits by their Bendix or Waggoner numbers on their castings. Shoes can be relined or replaced by their numbers on them. With the bleeders functional; and some flow/pressure to the shoes, I would add some fluid to the m/cyl and try to get it to either improve or fail. Flushing a can or two of fluid thru the m/cyl s might clean the system some. If no improvement, I would remove, clean, hone to bright, and install a kit. A good air pressure cleaning of the brakes wheel ends to see if w/cyls are leaking. I would ignore the inching function until I got brakes on it, then see how it works. I will try to get you some detailed info on it from a Clark source. Will take a week to get. They are good solid trucks.
that sounds lovely .. i will go back wednesday when its not 97 degrees and go ham on trying to get the brakes to work to a functional level. To but it bluntly this one has been running part time for prob 2 decades with about no maintenance, i did its oil change last year and the filter was dated 2014 and i spent the whole day to get it off and not damage the mounting boss it was so frozen/fused on. So they do seem to be tough ones that dont give up easily.
I was able to get a copy of the "line card" on your truck, see attached. You can get a parts manual and others from any Clark dealer using the numbers shown. They will be pricy; but considering if you are going to be keeping it, they would be worthwhile. It was not a popular truck and not a lot of them out. Card shows it shipped as LPG, and with a standard, single stage 127 MFH upright with a side shifter. Running and working , it is a nice truck to have. Get some brakes on it, pressure wash or drive to a carwash. get it clean and run to see if leaking and where from.
That is some amazing work there and a thank you doesnt feel enough. for giggles i googled the master cylinder number and it popped right up so truly thank you this is the missing info i needed and i do feel they will keep it for a long time as the part time yard lift for odd jobs
You are most welcome. Hope it gives you some good service. May be of interest to you. I am 88 years old. Worked for a Clark dealer for 7 years and started my own with 2 partners in 1979. We ran it until 1992 and sold to a Nissan dealer. Just try to keep my hand in helping folks.
