Bought 953 that was sitting for awhile,can be years not sure,was driven to spot where it was parked,runs fine problem is starts but stalls, motor seems fine,all fluids are fine ,linkage are freed up,it will run in reverse and drive but stalls when put in park,you can go right around from forward to reverse but does not like being in neutral or park it stalls engine,machine will not move,had to pull axles out to load on lowboy
Did you drop a letter out of that S/N? Cat always has at least one letter in the first three spaces of a S/N. I do see a 953 that starts with 05Z***** in it's S/N Would yours by chance be a 05Z00172? Knowing the correct S/N is important for getting a correct answer to questions. Next question would be when you say "it stalls" in neutral does it sound like it is lugging down before it stops or is it more like it just runs out of fuel? It might help if you could make a short video of it running then put it into neutral so we could have a better idea of what is actually happening. I believe you would have to post the video to Youtube and then post a link to this site.
Have you changed the fuel filter and cleaned the strainer with it setting I would do this
Yes first thing i did like i said, motor seems fine i had it runing no problem when i picked it up.Seems like something is stuck from sitting,I have several machines 35 years of fixing machines,never experienced this problem.
Again, when it stalls does it sound like it is coming under a heavy load like something is binding up and engine struggles to run or does it just die like you turned the key off for a gas engine? Did you double check the S/N? to see if there is that "Z" in it. Just want to be sure everyone knows exactly what machine we are talking about.
Yes z is in serial # 05Z00172 yes it shuts off like gas motor,yes sounds like something is bound up when it stalls
