1987 cat 215b quit driving one track

MattR ยท 2024-02-29 18:37

It's been slowly getting a little bit weak but now it completely quit. All other functions work good including the other track. No metal in the system. Before we start doing major digging, any suggestions? Thank you

Also, if anyone has the proper part number for that drive motor that would be appreciated. Thank you

Are you suspecting travel motor or final drive failure.? Drained oil for the final yet to look for nasty stuff on the mag plug.? If you pulled the travel motor off it ought to be fairly simple to check if it is rotating.

I should have been more clear. The final drive is fine. It's hydraulic related. And when you lift in the air the track will rotate put it back on the ground when it get some resistance it's dead. Almost sounds as though it could be a relief in the system somewhere? Or a major bypass in the motor? I don't have a service book on that machine for motor testing or knowing the proper flow.

From that statement I take it you have inspected the condition of the oil and the mag plugs.? One way of proving it's the motor is by swapping it to the other side. It's only held on by two bolts. If the symptom follows the motor then it's toast.

^ one of those cases where an older machine is easier to work on. ^ Some motors are a real PITA to access.
