Engine model & Serial Number. Maybe you are not aware yet but this is a grey market machine that was never designed to be sold outside Japan. That being the case there is no information in the online system. Better get yourself a Parts Manual PDQ because if you quote the machine Serial Number at a Cat dealer parts counter they're going to look at you like you've grown a second head.......... The Parts Manual for 7DK05187 is Cat Publication reference XJBP7246. That manual is for all 7DK machines with Serial numbers 3001-Up. From time to time there are copies around but if you can't find on a pdf version can be downloaded from Te Cat Publications web site. Here are links to a couple of other 7DK-prefix machine threads that have popped up over the years.......... HeavyEquipmentForums 1995 Caterpillar 312 Serial Number Help? I'm purchasing a 1995 cat 312 excavator, Japanese grey market machine according to ironrecord.com. Serial # is 7DK05146. Anywhere I try to find a shop/service/parts manual they say they can't provide one because the serial numbers don't match. Is there any type of cross reference from Japanese... HeavyEquipmentForums
I forgot to include this earlier. With the machine being 30 years old it is quite possible that the centre swivel has never been resealed. Leaking in between the various sections of the swivel often causes poor travel motor performance. Maybe that is where you should look first once you get your Parts Manual. The 312 was a Japan-only model. The nearest thing you can look for is Caterpillar Publication reference SENR6130. This is for a 312 of 6GK-prefix, also manufactured in Japan but sold into the world market. The 6GK machine is the nearest thing to the 7DK machine that exists. here's a link to one on eBay
thank you sir yeah me and my brother were thinking it was probably a leaking swivel unfort. after speaking with cat they provided a serial that we could probably use for cross ref 6GK05187 John
IMHO that's BS. The relationship between 6GK and 7DK Seril Numbers did not follow a linear path as suggested by Cat. In fact 6GK production was nowhere near S/N 5187 when it finally ended....... There is a known Serial Number equivalent that 7DK03001 is equivalent to 6GK00393. Also I have a document relating to a change made on both 7DK and 6GK machines. It happened at 7DK04602 and 6GK01079. So if you have 7DK05187 then you are looking at an equivalent somewhere arounf 6GK01500 or so. TBH your best bet is to get yourself a 7DK-prefix Parts Manual. That will allow you to go looking for the correct parts by Part Number. Drop me a PM. I may be able to help you. If your budget will stretch to it I would strongly suggest to buy that Service Manual from eBay that a linked a couple of posts back.
