Hi all, I have a 1996 JD310D Backhoe that seems to loose power steering when i have any weight on it! I have taken a line off the steering cylinder and cranked the wheel, no fluid seems to be bypassing the cylinder seals. Any help or pressure values that should be preasent at either cylinder or steering box would be helpfull. Thank you in advance!
How is the rest of the hydraulic system? The steering pressure is set by the priority valve which means it has to satisfy steering first before the rest of the hydraulic system sees any pressure. It is an open center system with a fixed displacement gear pump which will give you more pressure the faster you turn it.Also check your king pins.
joeblow, In the JD parts manual it shows a drawing of the hydraulic pump. It seems to have 2 sections, one smaller than the other. Can you explain why there are two sections. Is the small section specificly for steering? If so and that section is worn he may have low steering pressure.
