on buddy barry's 1996 western star with the set back front axle, he needs a drag link end. it is the heavy duty one and the old one has no number on it. is there a place on the internet where a guy can measure one up to fit??? thansk KoO Published Author
Assuming you mean the ball and socket type - there is a lot interchange- and quite often is just a broken spring- with your pile of spare parts in the yard you probably have what you need- at least till you can get back to civilization- try Moog or TRW web sites
thansk i tried those sites but didn't get any where. i clicked on this and waited, then click on this and waited. then i tried the search and that was even worse. i like the SKF website for cross referencing seals. very simple to use. here is a picture of the drag link end that has no numbers what so ever on it. thansk KoO Published Author
This catalog does not show Western Star but lists tie rod ends by Eaton and Meritor axle models. Edit: Sorry didn't work. This link should lead you to the page: http://www.who-sells-it.com/cy/s-s-truck-parts-inc-2098/chassis-2008-20319.html
Maybe this can help? http://trucksteering.trw.com/files/lnk118e.pdf
once again the internet has helped us out big time. buddy barry ordered the part through the dealership and they said almost 2 weeks. i phoned down there today and they have 6 in stock and will get it over night. oh my is all i have to say. the computers make the world a small place plus they make us smarter. thansk for all your help. thansk KoO Published Author
we got the tie rod end today. it travelled over night by bus the 900 kms to thompson but the bus does not run to lynn lake for 3 days because of the weekend. so i had to travel 600 kms round trip to pick up the piece because we need the truck working not sitting in the KINGDOM. of course the so-called road was at the worse i have ever seen in all my years up here. oh well the joys of living in the great white north plus i did a little shopping too, LOL. thansk for all your help and it is free drinks on buddy barry's visa. just email me for his card number and remember it will be a 2 drink limit, LOL thansk KoO Published Author
That sure is a handsome part you have there. Makes the old one look kind of tired looking. "Old one has no number on it" so does the new one? What’s with all the barrels? Floatation device incase you drive into a loch? Glad to hear your old friend will live again.
if it was not for the internet, the dealer would have sent us the wrong part after a week and 1/2 wait. then we would pay the freight back plus restocking charge, then wait another 3 days for the right one to come. the internet got the right part the right time. the barrels are for the KINGDOM, i get then as scrap and i use them for everything. that little trailer has hauled lots over the so-called road and only broke down once inside buddy barry's shop. he did a 2400km round trip and when he went to back up in his shop the wheel on the trailer fell off but in side the shop. so we unhooked the trailer and fixed the wheel bearings that got eating when the dust cover disappeared 200km from home. what a great little trailer breaking down inside the shop, LOL. thansk KoO Published Author
i woke up to a nice sunny hot day in the KINGDOM which was a far cry from the last 2 days of rain. i checked the suburban and little trailer over before i headed to buddy barry's shop, that is when i noticed the wheel bearing on the trailer was toast. talk about very very lucky to make it back to the KINGDOM. thansk KoO Published Author
