Hello I`m new to the site, but been reading alot of good information here.Got a question I have a 2000 D6R XL with wider blade and shoes it has the custom product badge on the nose.I`ve read here about a gentleman who had a d6r xw that the serial number registered it to be a xl machine.Mine has a 5ln number and a z stamped at the lower right corner of the id tag. Does anybody know what i have? And what the Z stands for thanks

Without the complete Serial Number, in other words the 5 digits after the 5LN prefix, no .......

Your machine is listed as a D6R XL. The reason for the Custom Product Badge is the 1Q-4736 Track Groups originally fitted to the tractor. To install them required the blade trunnions to be modified (you'll see spacer plates between them and the track frames) and a wider blade. The complete blade group is a 4Z-0642, Serial Number 1WP02186 - you should find it on a plate on the top RH corner of the back side of the blade.

The tractor's the same horsepower at any other D6R. Regarding the "Z" on your ID tag can you post a photo..?

The "Z" Others may have differing opinions but your Serial Number plate is stamped in the old-style of 8 characters. A change was made from a Serial Number to a Product Identification Number (PIN) which has 17 characters. So your D6R S/N 5LN02640 would become a PIN of CAT00D6RZ5LN02640. The first 3 characters of the PIN plate are an abbreviation of the manufacturer's name. The next 5 characters are the model reference (with zeros ahead of it if the model number is not 5 characters) The next character is a "Check Digit" randomly selected by computer at time of production of the plate and retained in factory records to address the issue of cloned PIN plates. The last 5 characters are the Serial Number. So I think either your "Z" is an old-style Check Digit or it could possibly refer to the fact that the machine has Custom Shop attachments fitted to it which would require separate Parts Books to locate repair parts. Custom Shop parts are not usually listed in the standard Parts Manual for the machine. In the case of this D6R the 1Q-4736 Track Groups do not appear in SIS online.

Correct. Z stamped on the ID plate indicates a custom product. Parts book SEBC1074 covers the attachments in this case. Looks like you've got an air suspension seat. Fancy!

Cat are actually moving into the 21st Century. The Custom Product Parts Manuals now generally appear in SIS-web. Not so long back if the paper Custom Product Parts Manual got lost you were well & truly ***ked when it came to ordering parts...... If it was left up to me every track-type tractor sold would have an air-suspension seat. Weird thing is that the air seat is in the Custom Product manual but doesn't have a 1Q or 4Z Part Number. Strange.
