machine stopped moving about 2years ago cat replaced big electric box mounted on fuel tank machine works fine but display on dash saids generator derated with slow flashing lights cat wanted to pull generator to trouble shoot to costly been working daily just push OK button generator derate go out but comes on in about 30 minutes push button keep on working going on second year any suggestions what is causing this

Very strange and fascinating to hear about one of these still working, in the wild. They are aging like milk. I went to school on them in 2011 when the SOA DoT&PF purchased one. What a disaster of a product.
I'm not sure what your application is, but landfills are running units with over 20000 hours here. All in all they've been pretty solid, but yes, very expensive to repair if you have issues. The new D6XE has a 20000 hour powertrain assurance if you pull the generator and rebearing/reseal at 10000 hours. Exactly what codes and events are active when de-rated?
