Hi, i see someones cat burned down, and it's exactly the same machine we have, should we be concerned? http://www.ebay.com/itm/salvage-caterpillar-289D-/201390880352?
I have seen a lot of machines of all makes used in clearing that burn. Most operators are lazy about letting brush and debris build up. Especially with the advent of tier 4 machines, there are lots of heat sources to light the accumulated debris on fire.
Yes you should. It should be a wake up call to you to make sure you keep your machine clean and free of debris, both on the outside and especially inside the engine compartment. A decent-size fire extinguisher should also be on your list, although exactly where on the machine it would mount is another matter - I'm sure other members can come up with ideas.
Make sure you're well insured!
The biggest problem with these burns from debris buildup, is that they often start about 1/2 hour after shutting the machine off as the heat soaks into the debris. When running, the air flow frequently keeps it cool enough to not ignite. Unfortunately many have left the job site by then. Make sure you schedule cleaning before leaving at the end of the day, and not the morning before starting
This is exactly the proper answer PDG X, and why we have taken to Cooling Down any and all of our Farm machines and visually inspecting certain areas (esp combines) that have 'dust collection issues' near parts that generate HEAT _ often a simple walk around the vehicle will let you smell impending danger, and certainly Cleanliness is The Answer _ Be Safe out there folks!!
