vin# CAT0297DHBE700316 Got me a little stumped. So far verified voltages 8 and .5 verified signal jumper pin 3 and 4 .5 ohms at yellow and purple. as for checking short in harness do I ohm out every pin in Plug J2 while in Yellow and then do it in blue? J2 Plug only? I did try it, but I only get ohms on certain pins. Key is off and sensor is unplugged. put a new sensor in and no change. What a pain as it was stuck in there.

2685-8 - LH #1 speed sensor signal erratic, intermittent or incorrect. Event E695 - "Unexpected Motor Speed signal" has been disabled. A direct result of the 2685-8 Code. Did you move the machine a significant distance after installing the new sensor.? The 2685-8 Diagnostic Code will not go away until the ECM receives a genuine signal from the new sensor. You might have to move the machine 50 yards or more for the Code to clear itself if in fact the sensor was your problem. Yes. You're doing the test on both of the connectors J1 & J2 because the signal wires for the LH speed sensor harness run alongside various other wires some of which terminate in J1 and others terminate in J2 at the ECM end. Put one probe of the multimeter in J2-29 then put the other probe in J2-3 and measure the resistance. It should be a minimum of 5000 ohms, or may even read OL or open circuit depending on your meter. Continue in sequence for every Pin position in J2 that has a wire in it until you get to J2-77. Then repeat the process with each wire in J1 always keeping one probe in J2-29. Then repeat the process with one probe in J2-37 and again go through the all others in sequence.

Yes I drove it 3/4 of a mile. Ill test the pins now. debating on just cutting the dam beeper and running it. Should have kept my bobcat.....

So your reading there is 1.6 megohms, or 1.6 million ohms. Above the 5000 ohms minimum value specified in the test procedure by a factor in excess of 300. If they are all like that then there is no short circuit in the main machine wiring harness.

Is it every pin or just certain ones? some pins seem to have no readings.

Some pins have no wires in them so you would get no reading. I'll send you the electrical schematic. Check your messages.
