Hi i have a 259 that draws .5-.6 amps with key off is that acceptable i pulled all the fuses behind seat 1 by 1 and amps didnt go down i unpluged the radio and product link too what should i do now?
Have you got an electrical Schematic so that you can make sure that you have disconnected all the possible circuits that may be causing the draw.?
Ya I do actually would you know how much draw I normal ?
50 miliamps is about the max for a car.
500 - 600mA is a lot of draw and will drain batteries fairly quickly. Ignition off draw should be 70mA or less. Usually less. My Dodge with a pair of group 31s in had a problem and was drawing 250mA. Batteries would be dead after sitting for 2 weeks at most. Tested a Jeep last week only 29mA. One thing to note when testing is to leave the vehicle sit with the meter checking it for several minutes or more without any electrical events taking place. Then see what the reading is. You need to wait until the ECM goes to sleep mode. Before that it is running tests, checking things and sucking amps. I saw one pull 2500mA for 30 seconds before it started to drop. After 5 minutes and several drops it was down to 60. Any electrical event like pulling a fuse etc. will cause it to wake up and draw more power. Then takes awhile to sleep again.
Leave a trickle charger on it and check in the morning with an temp gun to see if the alternator is warmer than the rest of the machine. The alternator almost always has battery power all the time, and the diodes get leaky.
Ever thought of wiring a master switch in the battery cable so that you can turn everything off when you're not using the machine.? We do that, albeit for a different reason, because we have to have somewhere to lock the machine out when performing maintenance work. It would be one solution to your problem.
Did you find out what was causing your draw? I am having this issue with my 2015 259D FLT05630. My key switch was loose so I assumed it was causing the problem but that was not it.
