Ernie Calvert · 2019-12-25 12:56

My 299D was working fine one minute then all of all hydraulics quit! Machine won’t move, arms quit working and brush hog will not turn on. Checked all fuse and they were good. Any help would be awesome

Did it quit while you were operating it or would it not move when you started it up after it had been stopped.? Any warning lights flashing on the dash..? (Either when you first start up or when you try to release the parking brake.) Please post a S/No just in case tech info is needed.

While operating. Everything working fine then bam wouldn’t do anything. No warning lights displayed S/N Cat0290HHCL00595

I wonder if the coupling between the engine and the pump has failed in that case. It's not exactly unknown. Any weird smells or sounds when it quit.?

Did you accidently hit the hydraulic lockout switch? What about door switch/armbar switch? Do all the warning lights light up when it goes thru the system check (when you first turn on the key)? Sometimes the lights burn out.

Didn't see the part where you lost drive too. May be a pump coupling as Nige suggested.

All lights come on thru start up. We messed with door switch and arm bars. Parking light goes off when you press the switch. No odd smells or sounds.

The fan isn’t turning while machine is running. That brings it to the coupling between motor and pump? Is it better to pull hydraulic pump to replace or motor? I would like to fix it where it sets because it’s in a spot that’s not very accessible!

Certainly sounds like it could be the coupling. IMO, you'll need to remove the hystat and hydraulic pumps to remove the engine anyways so I'd at least attempt to slide the pumps back and replace the coupling with engine in place. You might get away with leaving a lot of lines connected but it may not be possible. I've only ever removed engines on 299D's, never replaced pumps so not sure how much access you'll have with the engine in place. I do know the 2 pump bolts are a royal b**** to get at. Do yourself a favour and get a (I believe) 15/16", 1/2" drive torque adapter, a long extension and a long ratchet. Stubby wrench would help too.
