3056e perkapillar engine torque info

JBDiesel · 2026-09-03 21:18

Hello all, have a perkapillar 3056e that I was hoping to get some info on. SN- 35601766. Am replacing the front gear case/ timing cover assembly due to stripped studs holding injection pump and was hoping to get the installation procedure so I can get all the torque specs. Would include timing cover to block, cam gear, idler gear, crank pully, and water pump as its gear driven off the timing cover. Much appreciated for any info, Thanks

There is such things as standard bolt torque tables, for the various thread pitches and sizes, grade's etc.

See the attached. For anything not specifically covered there is a general torque specs document. The Cat Publication reference is SENR3130. You will find copies of it available online.

Thank you, I'm aware of standard torque charts but when it comes to timing gears and any torqure to yield setups, I really like factory specs haha.

And I thought we were the only ones that called them perkapillars

Serial 35601766 falls in the 3056E 35600001-up engine range. Use Cat publication RENR2400 for the component procedures and SENR3130 only where no specific torque is published. Relevant values are 78 N·m for the cam gear bolt, 44 N·m for the idler retainers, 115 N·m for the crank pulley bolts tightened evenly, and 22 N·m for the water-pump and front-cover bolts. Idler end play is 0.10–0.20 mm and cam-to-idler backlash is 0.052–0.107 mm. Before removing the injection pump, set No. 1 at TDC compression and lock both the crankshaft and pump according to the FIP procedure. Because different pump arrangements use different mounting values, follow the attached FIP sheet for that torque rather than assuming a standard value. Nige’s answer is fundamentally correct: those component-specific sheets take precedence over a generic bolt chart. “perkapillar” is an appropriate nickname: the Caterpillar 3056E is essentially the Cat-branded version of the Perkins 1106C-E60TA.
