Good day guys... Need inputs on this one badly... We have a CAT 320C S/N: PAB newly installed brandnew engine(genuine 3066), newly installed hydraulic pump(genuine reman). Engine coolant and hydraulic oil temperature would overheat simultaneously after only less than 30 minutes of operation. Radiator and hydraulic oil cooling fins are free from dirt and debris. Performed testing with test lights to check clogged fins. Engine fan is normal, shroud is sealed properly. What could probably be causing the overheating... hydraulic? ... engine?... or both... Hydraulic oil and coolant level are normal by the way..... Please help! Thanks guys!
Did you check with temp gun and verify sensors are reading correctly?
Is fan blade on correct direction? Blade scoops reversed will lower efficiency.
Was the cooling package (radiator, hydraulic cooler, & Aircon evaporator) disassembled and each module cleaned spearately during the engine/pump R&I..?
These are side by side rad and hyd cooler, but, my 328D is similar. Had very same issue...believed cooler and radiator were restriction free (could see light thru both), but, after steam cleaning them, the problem went away. BTW, this goes for ALL 3 of my 328DLCR machines.
Sorry, didn't look and assumed the 3 units would be stacked one behind the other. Shows you should never assume, but the same comments still apply. TBH if you were putting a new engine/implement pump assembly in an excavator wouldn't it be logical to pull the radiator & hydraulic cooler and service them at the same time..?
Yes, if monitor reading is 92°C, the infrared reading on the regulator housing would be 91.6 °C. Top tank to bottom tank temperature temperature drop is only 1.5 degrees celcius. The normal operating temperature range for this unit should be 89+/-3 °C according to the manual by the way... the ambient temp ranges from 30 to 39 °C by the way.... Thanks!
Fan blades are on correct direction. Thanks!
That temperature drop through the radiator is nowhere near enough, it should be around 10 DegC which is 7 times what you are measuring. I think you have an airflow problem through the radiator, especially as the hydraulic oil temperature is also skyrocketing at the same time. Everything screams ariflow to me. Did you disassemble the cooling package and clean it inside & outside during the engine/pump replacement..?
Set the engine rpm wide open, open the door in front of the cooling package and feel around the top, bottom and sides of the coolers for air recirculating. The older excavators are bad about the seal foam falling or rotting out and recirculating hot air
Both my excavators had cooling issues finally looked in the neck of one could see couple cores plugged rad shop said if you can see a few you have more so got it cleaned perfect after that. The other one was clean but found out it was after market so bought new one from cat ouch lol looked same as aftermarket one but fixed my heating issues. Both my rads were clean as a whistle but it was internal.
Thanks guys, ill update as soon as we've finished performing your inputs...
Good day! This is spot on! I didn't steamed cleaned it but thoroughly cleaned it with all purpose cleaner and pressure washed it afterwards and found out that cooler is still dirty.
Good day! This is very spot on!
Good day! The problem was solved . Recirculating hot air and dirty oil cooler were the culprits. Oil cooler was being soaked with hydraulic oil due to the leaking from the oil cooler rubber hose. Pressure washing won't clean the oil thoroughly from the fins resulting to dust/dirt accumulations/sticking and poor cooling and poor airflow!
Thank you everyone for your brilliant minds!!!
We installed all the missing liners and foams and the problem was solved..
