Hey guys just wondering if anyone is able to give step by step instructions on calibrating the PRV valve on a 320C? This is the last thing I need to do to get the old girl back to how she used to be!
hi guys i'd need that advice aswell as ive just purchased a 2005 year 320c. pump flow seems low as machine is slow and doesnt have much power! just done a full service engine and hydraulic filters,i tried adjusting the main relief valve but no difference in pressure arm and boom sticking to 26000 kpa.is that normal working pressure? thanks
Glen, Is the below info ok.? Pictures didn't come through but pressure tap 1 is on your left as you look through the pump compartment door. 2 is on your right. 3 is straight down and to the right of 2. I take it you know where the relief valves are.? If you need more help give me a shout.! Note: A New specification is the performance that can be expected for a new machine. A Rebuild specification is the performance that can be expected after rebuilding the components of a system. Performance beyond Service Limit specifications is an indication of these problems: improper adjustment, wear, damage of relief valves and damage of pumps. Table 1 Relief Valve Specifications Torque for Locknut New Rebuild Service Limit (A) Main relief valve 34300 ± 490 kPa (4950 ± 72 psi) 34300 ± 490 kPa (4950 ± 72 psi) 32340 to 34790 kPa (4700 to 5050 psi) 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 7 lb ft) (B) Boom cylinder line (head end) 36800 ± 1470 kPa (5350 ± 215 psi) 36800 ± 1470 kPa (5350 ± 215 psi) 33850 to 38270 kPa (4920 to 5565 psi) 20 ± 2 N·m (14 ± 4 lb ft) (C) Boom lowering control valve Table 2 Required Tools Part Number Description Qty 9U-7400 Multitach Tool Group 1 8T-0470 Thermometer group 1 Table 3 Relief Valves Pressure change With One Turn Of Adjustment Screw Main valves 14400 kPa (2100 psi) Line relief valve 11000 kPa (1600 psi) Note: Pressure values in Table 3 are approximate values. Use a pressure gauge for adjustment. Note: Normal operations of the engine and pumps are necessary for the pressure adjustments. If the results of the pressure adjustment are not correct, then the engine and the pump characteristic curve needs to be checked. Slow output flow from the pump is an indication of air in the hydraulic system. Make sure that no air is present in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Air (Main Hydraulic Pump) - Purge". Note: Always make final pressure adjustments on pressure rise. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Illustration 1 g00666193 Pump compartment (1) Pressure tap for delivery pressure from the right pump (drive pump) (2) Pressure tap for delivery pressure from the left pump (idler pump) (3) Pressure tap (power shift pressure) 1.Position the machine on level ground. 2.Stop the engine. 3.Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release". 4.Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (1). Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (2) . 5.Connect a 6000 kPa (870 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (3). This is used to monitor power shift pressure. 6.Start the engine. 7.Place the machine controls at the following settings: engine speed dial "10" and AEC switch OFF. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Engine Performance Test" for engine rpm settings. 8.Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F). 9.Slowly move the joystick for the bucket to the BUCKET OPEN position (bucket cylinder rod at the fully retracted position). 10.Check the main relief valve pressure setting at pressure tap (1) . 11.Return the joystick for the bucket to the NEUTRAL position. 12.The main relief valve pressure setting should be 34300 ± 490 kPa (4950 ± 72 psi). If the main relief valve is not within the specification, adjust the main relief valve pressure setting to the correct pressure specification before performing Step 13. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Main Relief Valve - Test and Adjust". Hope this helps you and Naheed
hi ciaran, thanks for the help, i will try above adjustments on monday, but still wondering why the pressure didnt change when i tried adjusting the main relief valve earlier. bucket shows 34500 kpa but boom and arm dont go over 26000 kpa? im also looking for a shop manual
I thought the prv valve was calibrated through the service mode on the in cab moniter?
okay! anyones can give me instructions on how to? thanks
You are correct in that the PRV is adjusted through the monitor panel. I don't have the procedure or the codes for doing it.
Hi Glen, Sorry I thought it was the main relief pressures you were after. See the below info and see if its what you are after. Service code should be FFF2 if it has not been changed. Proportional Reducing Valve - Calibrate - Power Shift SMCS - 5473-524-QY This calibration is used to memorize the power shift pressure for the proportional reducing valve. Be sure to perform this calibration when the proportional reducing valve or the controller has been replaced. 1. Install a pressure gauge of 4900 kPa (710 psi) to the tap for the power shift pressure. 2. Set the backup switch to the AUTO position. 3. Raise the hydraulic oil temperature to 50 °C (122 °F). 4. Enter the service mode. ________________________________________ View Image ________________________________________ Illustration 1 g00688851 5. Highlight the second line by using the arrow keys. Thanks Ciaran! Just one more thing, is it possible to calibrate the prv so it loads up the engine a bit more before stroking the pumps back? i.e. for getting more flow/power to a mulcher? I realise this would increase pump wear etc. but it's really frustrating having so little power going to the mulcher, I have to keep stopping to let the cutting drum speed up again. Am I going down the right track with this or is there another way to get more hp to the mulcher? Thanks so much for your help thus far!
Glen , Are you using one pump to run your mulcher or both to give you bigger flow to the mulcher.? What is your S/N ? I am looking at AKH prefix and it has 2 rocker switches which control your pumps for your Auxillary circuts.
Mulcher is only running one pump, machine not set up with 2 pump aux flow unfortunately. We have tried to set it up but the cost was ridiculous, there was no easy way to do it! (that we could find) S/N is AMC00566
If you want more pump lug calibrate the prv on the low side of pressure specs. As in instead of 72 for low got to 60 and instead of 362 go 345 psi.
Thanks so much for you help guys, I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on
hi ciaran, i had a guy come over on tuesday who used to work at our local cat dealer in kenya and he tested the machine saying that the prv is not working and assuring me we need a new one, so today he put in a new one for which i paid $500! Now the machine does feel abit faster and more powerful but arm function overloads the engine even turning it off and boom down is unable to lift machine,as he was going to calibrate the prv from hes laptop we got 2 errors alternator sensor and prv voltage below normal. the guy has disappeared lol and seems like i paid $500 for nothing.i really need help and advice on this! how much voltage should be there on the prv wires? how can i find out why there is low voltage coming to the prv? the backup switch is not working i cant seem to find any voltage coming to it? thanks!
hi tried prv calibration today after step 8 it shows error 21. appreciated for the info!
Hi Ciaran, is it possible to get the images that go with the prv calibration instructions? I tried to get them from my CAT dealer but he couldn't even operate the SIS, must have been a new guy. Really just need to know where to put the pressure gauge, I haven't been out to see the machine in a while but I'm sure it's easy to find, I'm assuming it will be around the top left area of the pumps?
hi anyone for info on error 21?
