I have the new liners ready to go in and not sure what to use on the o rings there is so many different methods people use oil ,soap confused in New Hampshire any and all help thanks in advance John
Vaseline
the top o ring (Looks more like a rubber band) below the lip gets soaked with engine oil just before installation, the bottom rings I use a good liquid soap like sunlight, since they are coolant seals cat doesn't recommend oil based lubes.
There are 2 types of lower o-ring for the liners, a brown one and a black one. If the o-ring is brown then you coat both it and the block with engine oil before installation. If the o-ring is black then you coat both it and the block with liquid soap before installation. In all cases the upper filler band (the one that looks like an elastic band) is coated with clean engine oil before installation, the oil makes it swell and seal the top liner joint. Don't coat the block and also only coat the filler band with oil right at the moment you want to install the liner because otherwise the oil will cause it to swell prematurely and it could be damaged during liner installation.
Probably too late to this subject, but before you install the liners with the seals did you check the liner height?
That question crossed my mind too. Using new liners without measuring heights would be like playing Russian Roulette with the head gasket.
