345D oil seaping from turn table

user123 ยท 2018-06-15 23:24

345D EEH prefix is leaking oil from swing gear or house bearing?. Don't know any history on machine came from auction. 11k hrs. Oil is seaping externally from table where grease is suppose to be. Could this be caused by swing leaking swing drive gear? Will be his cause any damage continuing to run it? Thanks

One of the swing motors is leaking into the gear reduction unit and the seal is worn out on the pinion gear. Check the fluid levels in each swing reducer and that will tell you which one is leaking. You will have to pull the swing reducer and tear it down to replace the seal. At 11,000 hours you will see plenty of other leaks in the near future. You probably need to check the up and down free play in the swing bearing as well.

Thanks for your input. So you are saying the swing motor seal is bad pushing oil into the swing drive gear unit which is then leaking into the swing gear?

That would be my thought process. Check the swing reducer oil. I seem to remember that model having two swing reducers. If so you should probably do both of then anyway.

Also check center swivel and hoses

This might give a clue. If you are in fact losing oil via the shaft seal of one or both swing motors, the oil level in the hydraulic tank might be going down when there are no obvious external leaks on the machine. If your machine is basically oil-tight on the implement side and you have to top up oil once in a while then it could provide the clue as to where the oil's going. With 11k hours on the machine if the swing motors/transmissions haven't been overhauled yet they are probably getting to the stage where they should be.
