410K Hydraulic

Robbinsjr · 2024-02-13 13:52

Hello everyone. First post! I have a 2013 John Deere 410K and was wondering if I could adjust the pressure to the hoe part? I installed a thumb and its says the bucket pressure needs to be more than the thumb pressure so it can push the thumb back in when curling the bucket. Well it wont. Ive googled and looked in the book for the machine with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Jim

Welcome to HEF Jim . You have a machine serial number ? I assume the thumb function is operated by a 2way foot pedal ?

Thanks Dave! PIN is 1T0410KXVDE239357 Yes it is a 2 way foot pedal for the thumb.

Another way of saying the same thing, the thumb cylinder barrel end circuit relief valve (key #16 in screenshot) needs to be set less than the bucket curl pressure. https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc...ment/72159/referrer/navigation/pgId/724500311 . Deere also recommends installing a circuit relief valve part # AT182377 (key #23) in the port supplying the thumb cylinder rod end . . Screenshot below is from Deere parts site.

Thanks! I think its time to call Deere and have a tech come out! lol

If you don’t mind getting your hands a bit oily ,you could install those 2 relief valves yourself . Would be fairly straight forward.

Im not sure where this is even at? I dont mind getting dirty, just not sure where to even start!

With the engine off ,cycle the thumb control pedal multiple times in both directions to relieve the hydraulic pressure in the thumb circuit lines and hoses. Standing at the back of the machine looking at the backhoe control valve , locate the valve section that is connected to the thumb control foot pedal. Follow the hose from the rod end of the thumb cylinder to the valve section. Remove plug #32 (in screenshot) that corresponds to that hose and install circuit relief valve # AT182377. Remove the remaining plug #32 (in screenshot) and install circuit relief valve # AT359012. Test the machine to check for leaks and confirm that the thumb cylinder will collapse when curling the bucket. Check the hydraulic oil level. Done and done ! Pat yourself on the back and save your cash for when you need to hire Deere for something more complex.

Ouch wasn't expecting parts to be $1200 lol. Guess I better ask the board before jumping into this one. Thanks for all the help Dave!

Be sure to inform them of the cost of the thumb, when you present that price. It may be possible to find those valves somewhere else, JD probably didn't make them.

That was the price from local JD dealer.

Just tell the board that a thumb cylinder failure along with the hydraulic system contamination that goes with it, the $ 1200 will be cheap lol.

LMAO. My board is consisted of a bunch of city slickers. Prob don't even know what a back hoe is let alone the thumb I just attached
