my manual does not show a Air conditioning schematic...pipeing etc.....is it just me? i have a high pressure side problem ...kicking out on the high side which is a indication of a clog in the circut....would certainly be helpful to know the plumbing schematic..
PM me your Serial Number and your e-mail address. I'll fire you off something when I get into the office tomorrow morning.
doubt it has a high side cut,,,, if so check the outside condnsing coil for being clean... normal for AC systems to have a low side switch,, open circut when low on freon
it sure acts like it does....im certainly no AC tech......but what my gages show is ...compressor kicks on within 1 second the highside gage hits 350 and compressor kicks out......high side settles down then it repeats....it hits the "high side limit" if it has one within 1 second and kicks out.....then it takes a bit5-10seconds for it to settle down 200psi ish and kicks back it...low side gage reads....20-40 and pretty steady ..occasionally it will go to vacum... to me that seems like possibly a reciever dryer or a expansion valve is clogged? ....i did lower the system charge thinking maybe it was overcharged with no results....i would assume if it was a condenser being clogged it would build up slowly then release?
I sent you the schematics - did you get them..?
tazzman, you sound correct on all counts expansion valve,,, some use a orifice valve inside the high side tubing as it connects to the evaporator....fan on condenser unit runs? good luck
nothing yet Nige jimg984 ....fan on condenser is engine fan so yes its running...and relatively clean could this be symptoms of a failing compressor?
not very likely comp,,,,,,,,,clog on high side as you are thinking,, screen in orifice nozzle or expansion screen ,,expansion valve failing I'm sure you find and fix
Thx Nige for the schematic help..... To much to do in the field so i guess the plan is to bring it in, in the near future, try to expose piping...evaporator...and run it and see if i get any frost formation at a spot indicating a blockage....if that doesnt indicate a issue...then vac it out and check/replace the oriface tube.......and the accumulator..... any other ways of checking things out?
Probably is the compressor coming apart. It's the only moving part in the whole AC; the rest is just tubing and radiators. So unless you somehow got something in there that is clogging fixed orifice, most likely the compressor. Pull it apart and see what kind of trash you have and go from there. You'll find out when you go to buy the rebuilt compressor a requirement to take apart the entire AC and flush all the crap out of the lines and evap and condenser. If you don't, no warranty, and you'll probably frag the new compressor with the metal that is still floating around the system if you don't flush it. We were getting $1100 for a new compressor and flush and recharge; and this was 13 years ago....
these days AC parts are relatively cheap and non-proprietary........i priced a NEW compressor from a wholesaler for this machine at ~160$ went ahead and ordered the orifice tube and accumulator ~50$ today...........not like the Cat proprietary steering seal kit i bought for this machine last week from cat for ~200$
appears to be the screen/orifice tube......as it was severly clogged up.......so...new orifice tube/accumulator.....system flush...nitrogen purge...n recharge..... does anyone know the correct Freon charge quantity for a 416c? ....
