    any smoke when spining over?

If it will start on ether, you for sure have a fuel delivery problem. A diesel needs three things to run, air, compression, and fuel. A lack of any of those three will cause it to not run. Since it starts on ether, that proves you have air and compression, the thing that is lacking is fuel. If it will actually run after you've started it with ether, could be bad injectors not atomizing fuel proper for start up or compression is getting a bit weak for start up.

as Willie says, change your injectors, see if that stops the problem

It will spin over fine but usually they should smoke a little when turning over .... An soon as u giver a little either its starts and runs with full capacity Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree no smoke no fuel,i dont know what fuel sys. that engine has but your pump is weak or your starter is turning slow or a combination of the two ,I have had several worn pumps that dont do much at starter speed but do ok at runing speed the little sniff fills in the gap.Hope this Helps..

My vote is for slow cranking due to weak batteries or starter.
