iv purchased a small case 450 crawler recently and not knowing much about dozers it has always has a little leak and a noise i never could pin point on the rt side of the trans. well after letting a neighbor borrow it you guest it, he found it! he ran trans low on oil and the front bearing on the rt side went out. now what i need is advice on where to start pulling trans or is this something i can do in frame?

Brake the tracks and pull it out, is what I would do. Take the time to pressure wash it good first. You will need a service manual and parts book to help you when you get inside but it's not to bad once out, keep all shims marked as to location for a starting point during your rebuild.

Transmission comes out the rear. I find it easiest to pull final drives off after transmission is out. Like sheepfoot says, keep track of shims. They are located between final drives and transmission housing and at shaft bearing locations. AND Get the books!! If you have questions or need parts feel free to contact me directly.
