... how hard is it to rebuild a sway box ? I have one which i use on occasion with my dozer, but it is a problem - traveling & digging with it .. it sways too much !
If you are talking about the swing cylinder, the large round valve in the backhoe tower, it can be a job. There is a lifting jib to be made up to assist in removal that helps keep it balanced while you remove and install and a clamp to hold it when removed to pull it down. It's not a bad job but it has to be put back together correct to not damage internal parts, seals plates etc. It seems like the internal seals or the choke plates may be the issue, they can stop the brake action of the swing cylinder and holding still when not in use causing a drift. You can find a tech manual on line for your machine, that will have pic's of the removal tool that you can make and drop the housing off at the dealer to rebuild, they should be able to rebuild it while you wait if there is not much wrong with it. Once out and clean it does not take more than 3-4 hours to go threw it. More if needed if this is the sway box your talking about.
.... Well thank you ! - yes you are right on - swing cylinder - but i can tell from your information it is beyond my capabilities -- so i will look for a local craftsman or shop - thanks again !
