Had a question, Im located in east TN and have a few pieces of heavy machinery, one of which is a wheel loader that I use primarily for moving material around at base of operations and loading trucks, its about a 544 equiv sized machine with forks but I had someone contact me about a day rate for a job down the road for a week loading tractor trailers. Im somewhat familiar with quoting skidsteers/ excavators but have no idea what the average going rates in this region are for wheel loaders, was going to call a few rental places and get day rates on renting one and multiply that by a % but was just curious if people had better insight on how to price that as never done it for a wheel loader. Appreciate any insight
what are your operating costs, and how much do you want to get paid to run it? how much profit do you want above that?
Not sure about down there, but here thr province has an equipment rental rate list that they pay Hourly weekly monthly. I think it goes by horsepower attachments. Maybe your state has something similar. Most contractors here will charge a bit less than government rate
i don't like other people setting my rates. i like to know how much i spent, how much profit i want to make, and how much i want for salary.
So why are you on here asking for help.

Didn't look at the name sorry. I find there are lot a lot of people that come on here and ask advice, already have the answer in their head, and reject what everyone says until they hear the answer they want. Guess I figured this was going to be the same. The government rate here is above what contractors charge, and is considered the top rate, like a union rate. As far as I'm aware, Ton Mile, most contractors pay 75% of the government rate. If we bid a road building job for the province, we are required to hire outside our own company for the trucking. And this is only government work, we can do what we want with everything else. We can only haul 25% of the material with our own trucks. This is controled by a truckers association. In order to get trucks, we have to contact the association, and they send what we need. In order to be on the list, Owner operators have to register with the association. I think it's a one time thing like 100 bucks or something, but you have to carry a certan amount of liability insurance. If they don't have enough trucks, maybe they are on another job, then we can use our own. Every county has their own association. Equipment, we can use our own. What was the point? Oh yeah if your state has a similar pricing rate, it might be a good starting point. Most guys won't give out their prices on forum. I think it would be operator costs. Not only what you pay them, but what other things you have to pay into. My employer pays a share of the taxes I pay for Canada pension plan, employment insurance, workers comp. The fewer accidents your company has, the lower your workers comp rates. Is the operator driving a company truck to site, Are you hauling your own fuel to site. Fuel consumption Wear and tear, greasing, insurance, mobilization, demobilization
shoot i just want a number also~! in south texas how much?

Here are some basic rates up here in BC, note adjustments for age of machine....
Looked it over. Quite interesting. Thanks for posting. Simon C
Yeah they give higher rates for newer equipment here as well. Most times for example, if you are buying materials from us to spread, you get a better rate then if we are spreading your material.
so for the most part.....canadians pretty much all charge the same amount for work performed?
No. Would depend on the area. Western provinces would have higher rates because of the oil industry. Government lists i refer to are rates the provincial government will pay. You can bid lower to work for them, but that is the maximum they will pay. If i cut high shoulders on a paving contract that we have. And it is extra work, then they will pay the max rate. Our grader doesn't plow snow for the government in winter. Other contractors with graders are willing to undercut the max rate by so much that it's not worth the wear and tear on our machine. They were stuck one winter with several break downs. They called for our grader to be on call. Company would not do it for any less than max rate plus a guarantee of enough work to make it worth putting the wing on. I think once the bill went over 15000. They cut us loose as their machines were fixed.
