Friend of mine has a Ford 555 backhoe that has a bad wandering steering - they rebuilt the steer cylinders , got the air out and still does it , any tips or something to look for to correct this ? Thanks
Front axle pivot, king pins, joints on steering cylinder
Was going to say the same, raise the front wheels off the ground and check the simple things like tire pressure, rim run out, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, cylinder rod ends, axle pivot, then recheck the cylinder rod piston seals. May have a steering valve issue if other checks are ok. Is it doing this while roading or reg use on site.
Another place to check would be the pump/valving at the bottom of the steering wheel shaft. It's quite possible he has some worn seals in that area.
Check toe in. Maybe give it a little extra if a lot if wear is present.
