Shifter on transaxle was tight until yesterday it just went 90 degrees, pulled out shifter and removed ball and looked inside, there is a rectangle area that shifter sits onthe forks, is there supposed to be a bushing or something there? I cant get the top plate off either, tried neutral, but fork shafts are still hooking case preventing top from coming off. Any ideas?
The four speed shifter plate should come up with shifter in neutral, if it isn't then you could have a shift fork rod broken.
It must be broke then, i started it up just to make sure its in nuetral an it still wouldnt come out after iI turned it off. Mahalo much!
Are the two rectangular notches aligned? If not then you need to align them to get cover out. If they are then you’ll have to lift cover up enough so you can see where it’s hanging and then move shift rail to get it out.
The rectangle notches are lined up, but the front of the cover will come up only about an 8th of an inch. Is there a bushing thats supoosed to sit in there or is there 2 cross pins that suppoed to hold shifter down yet allow side to side motion?
The notches should be in the center of the cover for the rails to clear the housing. There is a ball with a notch that is held to shifter with a roll pin and kept in housing with a spiral snap ring.
Ive got the shifter out and lined up notches, to center, i cant bring cover up enough to look under, it is in nuetral though, im worried that what ever held shifter in place in rectangle area dont end up eating synchros and stuff.
Check your detent springs, balls and lock screws for forks.
Will do, ive been working on neglected for years brakes, took out everything, cleaned everything, now have to wait on seals and patrs, what a pain in the okole(butt)!
You may need to shift one side at a time forward or backward to clear shift rail.
Been trying your suggestion, still no luck, will try again tomorrow.
Have you tried removing the shift lever ? It may be preventing the rails from moving.
I move gears, remove ball and lever to see inside, try to remove top plate, put back ball and lever, move again, remove ball and shifter, try to remove top plate, put back ball and shifter, move gears, take off ball and shifter, try to take of top plate, put back.......... Its a vicious cycle, and I can only bring it up about an 8th of an inch, anyways, my daughters car broke, so I have to R&R that and my son in law that drives 200+ miles a day to get to work(roofer) just told me his car vibrates a lot when accelerating needs my help, weekend is shot. Have a good weekend.
