580b roosamaster pump cracked??

Hi there my 580b has got a leak, looked like it was coming from the throttle shaft.Removed pump sent to injection shop, there qoute was 1200.00 so i got the parts and did it myself. tractor runs great but what i thought was a throttle shaft seal leak was in fact a cracked housing at the bottom of the pump, on the pressure side of the timing advance housing. Has anyone else had this problem? what might be the cause of it? I did notice that there was a lot of water damage in this area (makes a good water trap) could freezing have caused this? anyone know were i could purchase the aluminum housing from? thanks gary

Are you sure it is a crack? Got a pic? Very unusual. The 580B has an excellent water trap under the fuel tank and it's a good thing to check it often. The primary fuel filter also has a water trap. I'm always looking to pick up DB or DB2 pumps that don't work, I think many should be out there, try an on-line ad. A used tractor parts business might sell you a rebuildable core, with no guarantee, at very reasonable price. Phil

the following are the pictures of the pump timing advance with the crack in the housing (tryed to dye check to help see crack). after many lookers on my end general concesious... water damage. we all agree water was trapped in this area (fuel being lighter then water) water then froze cracking housing. its hard to see but the crack has opened up to the point were i think transfer pump pressure would have blown the plug out. anyway $400.00 for a pump housing new or found a used for 200.00 I just bought this machine so cant comment on serivce but if there is something to be learned from this its serivce service service. draining a water trap regularly im sure would have prevented this:Banghead if anyone is interested on whats going on these pumps i can take some pictures showing some of the inner workings when i strip this one down again.. thanks

I have a spare pump but it has a separate timing advance housing, bolted to the bottom of the pump body. Water will usually etch the parts pretty quickly. Over tightening that plug could crack the housing. I don't know if that crack could be tig welded or not. Pictures of that pump apart would be a good thing to post. Phil
