580b steering valve seals leaking

Hi i am helping a neighbor with his newly bought 580b and we have been repairing a lot of things including oil leaks and were finally to the last big one that is the steering valve. It is leaking oil around the shaft that the steering wheel bolts to (top of valve) and im not finding a lot of info about it im sure it is a bad seal. I would like to tackle this myself rather than remove valve and take it in to a shop but im not sure if this is something that can be removed by removing the steering wheel and leaving the valve mounted in the column. I have seen on this forum someone wh has done a 580d but i have no idea if it is the same as the b or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

That can be easily replaced from the top, the hardest part is getting the wheel off, There is a dirt seal which will come out easily a snap ring, a brass backup piece and the v type seal. Most times just putting the wheel on and jerking it back and forth will pop the seal out. Be careful on assembly not to roll or damage the new v type seal

Just got it done and it was fairly easy the hardest part was steering wheel removal i ended up using a pickle fork under wheel and a good blow with a hammer and a brass rod on the top of the shaft and i popped right off. This one didnt have the dust seal on it ??? but i removed the snap ring and started the tractor and turned the wheel and the pressure popped the spacer and washer right out then i dug out the old seal with a dental pic. The only thing i did special going back together was put black tape on the spline ect of the shaft before installing the new seal the rest was simple.
