My air filter is a oil bath filter with the metal mesh in the top and i seen something about a air filter offered for these. So today i called napa and ordered all new filters for mine the 188d and questioned them about a air filter and they tell me there is one listed for the 188d so now im wondering did they make some cks with a cartridge filter for the 188d or am i overlooking something on mine im not aware of cartridge filter on mine??? i even ask if the one they had was for the gas models and he said its listed for the 188d ???
Production change. Oil bath were used for decades and then they changed to dry filters. I'd guess that it's not the same housing though, can't just stick a cartridge in the gutted oil bath filter. What's wrong with the old oil bath anyway? just don't like the mess?
Delmer i like my oil bath i just wasnt aware they even used the cartridge type on these old cks mine is a 1970 and i think the 71 was the last year for the cks and the ones i have seen earlier are oil bath thanks
Xpack........Did not see this thread til now. I think that some of the Parts Reference books are off, with the pass of time. Maybe some suppliers have the CK and B as being the same, and since the B had the air cartridge filter, they say it fits yours. Also, I think some people kept calling the B by the term "Construction King", and didnt some B's have CK written on them? For me, I prefer the oil bath.....I think it cleans the air better, and no chance of a mouse eating into the filter, and those pieces, along with the mouse getting sucked into the engine. Yea i asked Dale at tractor stuff about it and he said they were used on the B's not the ck's i would rather have the oil bath as well i was just curious as i had never heard of the ck having the cartridge filter.
They're actually all "Construction Kings". Technically what you're calling a 580ck is just a 580, then came 580B Construction King, then a 580C Construction King, etc; right on up through at least 580L Construction King at least. I can't remember right now about Ms and Ns.
Mitch thanks for the breakdown heck i didnt even know there was 480's and 680's until joining this awesome site.Makes ya wonder how the old timers got all their knowledge without the internet libraries and word of mouth is how i did it before the net days.
The confusion comes even in the Case documentation. I have the full set of original Case manuals. The Service Manual binder is labelled '580 CK', the Parts manual '580CK Tractor', the Operators Instruction Manual is labelled '480-580 Series Construction King Wheel Tractors' and the backhoe and loader Operators Manual '580 CK Loader Backhoe'. Since they weren't building anything else at the time, they could call it whatever they wanted. If you are looking for parts and not through your friendly Case parts person, this sometimes causes a bit of an issue, especially if the seller isn't sure either. Its just frustrating to end up with the wrong bits.
Yea i knew about them all being the construction king but like you Just i have run into the confusion with this with dealers i tell them mine is a 580 and then they ask which model then i tell them a 580ck and then they know what im talking about.I have also noticed when doing a search you have to use search for both the 580 and the 580ck and you will get more results.
Mithc.......So, you could almost say that our 580s have an invisible "A" after the 580. They all are Construction Kings, with the "CKs" being the first, and since the next line of them were the 580Bs, I guess it would do no harm to stick a big "A" beghind our 580 lettering. As Spoc would say, "Fascinating".
68 I like it wheres my (A), but im afraid if i told the wife its an (A) she would relate that letter to what she calls me :cussing:cussing haha
Xpac..........Thats a good one....:lmao:roll :roll :lmao :lmao :roll
