Has anyone ever replaced the spool seals on the backhoe valve assembly, while still in place? I have several leaking at the top where the control rods attach. Lifting the rear window and removing a small plate gives good access, but underneath the valve body is not so accessible. Phil
Hey Phil, I can't recall having the pleasure of re-seal of the hoe valve on a K, can't help ya much on that one. Maybe gggraham can give you some advice.
Plenty of room on a side shift - wouldn't like to bet on a centre mount
Phil: You can reseal them easy without removing anything. Swing the hoe to the far right or left and do 2 spools. Then swing a bit more do another 1. The middle 2 stabilizer spools are the trickiest you have to line then up between the swing cylinders. Finally swing all the way over and do last 2. Remove all the rods from the spools. Put a vacuum pump on the hydraulic tank. Use a 1" socket with an extension to remove the spool cap. Put yer pan under the spool and pull it straight down. You'll have to use a pick to remove the top O ring but the bottom O ring should stay on the spool just above the copper washer. Slide it off slide a new o ring on the spool. Install a new wiper and o ring up top and slide it back in. Pretty easy and not too oily with a vacuum pump or a shop vac on hydraulic tank.
Thanks gggraham, I looked possible, but far better to ask, and be prepared for the job. Phil
I totally agree Phil. Looks like you came to the right place for some advice. Lots of knowledge in these forums.
