brother picked up a 580M, and gave me the....privilege of working on it ive done rear glass in both our 580e's our 580L - a few lock nuts and screws and in/out no prob the M he picked up is missing the lower rear glass...someone told me its glued in??? so basically i risk breaking the other 2 panes to get the track pried out? i layed the heat gun on the one side for a good half hour to try and melt the urethane and it still wasnt about to budge does anyone have any tips or tricks to get a pane of glass in or out without removing all the slides and sealing strips? if i take the latches off i can wiggle the one within 1/2" of clearing the track but i had it seriously bowed and about to shatter any help or tips would be awesome thanks!

If it is urethaned in it will need to be cut out. Can't melt urethane any more than you can melt a rubber tire. You may have to consult with an auto glass shop or a Case dealer/mechanic. Hopefully you'll get the answer on this forum.

This might not have anything to do with how the glass is mounted in your case... Typically you use a utility knife or wire saw to cut the adhesive to remove a windshield. A 2' piece of small wire rope (aircraft cable) unraveled so you use a single strand usually works pretty good.

thanks for the replies guys, i now know that urethane doesnt melt THANKS!! it def is some nasty sticky stuff. i ended up sharpening a putty knife and getting the frame out with some patience luckily didnt break or chip anything and it should be easy enough for two people to to pop back in after i get the glass into their tracks. a wire saw wouldnt have worked the way the track sits so snug against the cab pillar thanks again for the tips, i guess the glass guy was right about needing to cut it out and glue it in... glued in both rear quarter side windows last week and everything went ok, was just regretting it because i didnt have the back window to put in until a few days ago & it would have definitely been easier without them in there

Farmereinar, Good to hear you've got it done. I did auto glass for a living several years back. That's how I knew about the urethane but I am not familiar with the Case back window track so I could only help a little. But like the squirrel that's trying to get into the bird feeder, if your keep at it, it eventually gets done.

I helped a guy do this once years ago, it turned out to be so simple, taking about 20 minutes to replace one of the panes. I think the rubber strips on each side are pulled out, enough to let the pane shift sideways another 1/2" or so, then it will come straight out the back. Remember taking 2 rubber blocks out with a hooked screwdriver, the rest I can't remember. Frank

You've heard the phrase "so simple even a cave man can do it" That describes it very well. Looking ahead, pull the lower half of the LH track out the bottom, Put the windows up that are not being removed. With the LH track out there is a deep channel to slide the glass sideways into to allow the glass to be removed. This is the procedure if you are talking about the sliding rear windshield glasses. The urethaned side glasses definately do need to be cut out. If you are talking about the sliding rear windows, 15 minutes and they are on the bench. ' As mudpile stated accurately there are rubber square plugs pushed into the tracks on either side in the lower glass channel that keep the lower window from raising up, they will need to be removed to do it. If the cab has been accessed thru the rear window many times the rubbers are not reinstalled The LH track is two piece so the other glasses can be slid clear up and kept in their respective tracks by the top track piece. I just hope you don't have the plastic track melted fast to the cab channel. Let us know how it goes. Mel
