753 dead again… dealer time

ProudMarineDad ยท 2008-09-11 08:52

Thanks to everyone for their help w/ my previous questions(753 losing power). I am back to the beginning w/ this boat anchor. No crank, battery dead, wont jump off, new igntion switch, new solenoid, new fuse and new fuel filter. but i have one more question, How does one get it in neutral to winch it up on a trailer for transport? Or can i afford a house call, What is reasonable price for a house call? thanks again.

Sorry for your troubles, wish I was closer. If you raise your cab, your brake solenoid is on top of your chaincase, right behind the steering panel. If you remove the solenoid with the mount, you can pull the plunger and cross-block and your machine will roll. If you're careful, and use an assistant, you can tie back your fuel shut-off and jump the starter, and when running, with the brake removed, you should be able to drive it onto the trailer. The machine wil roll away if it's not setting level. Or you can winch it up. It's always cheaper to get it into the shop. Dealer field service here is almost $100/hr plus mileage, and you're paying until he figures it out and fixes it. Different outfits charge different prices, but for something like that, if you get away with a bill for $500-600 or less, it would seem about normal for dealer service. If he starts talking about an alternator, battery, starter, or takes longer than 1-2 hrs to troubleshoot, or spends a lot of time on the phone, hold on to your wallet. Good Luck
