824c wheeled dozer tranny question

newd4howner ยท 2018-11-23 20:23

Would it hurt a 824c cat wheeled dozer if you pulled backwards with it, was wondering if tranny was same fwd and rev? I want to take blade off for different project. Thanks

Shouldn't hurt it. Fwd & rev are slightly different speeds IIRC but transmission should pull OK either way. If you remove the blade it could end up light on the front end and you might get a tendency to wheel spin on the front wheels Maybe a silly question but when you have a tow pin attached to the rear of the machine why would you want to pull anything in reverse..?

830M is *** backwards / pulling in reverse with operator's seat turned around so reverse is forward.

I was wrong about the Fwd & Rev. The 824C is actually about 5% faster in reverse than it is in the same speed forward, so pulling in reverse you will lose about 5% of drawbar pull compared to pulling in the same gear in the forward direction. And that's provided you can get the power down to the ground on the front axle if the blade is removed.
