three speed trans . years ago i replaced lever for foreward reverse 1 2 3 with 4 speed lever worked fine been sitting maybe a year now only have 1 and 3 no 2nd tried another lever same thing any sugestions
Clark or Funk? Deere, Perkins or Deutz?
Check and make sure you have power at the solenoid back on the side of the tranny where the harness from the selector lever ends. Could be a wiring issue or maybe a bad solenoid. I ran into this on a similar machine. You can even hook 12 volts to the solenoid (once you figure out which one it is) and basically over ride the selector and it should go into gear. (make sure you're in a safe place with wheels chocked and locked if possible)
02Dmax is on it! The drawing shows a typical shift coil set up. It may or may not be the same as yours. A trans make will be a good piece of info. With a voltmeter or test light, it should be a simple procedure to see which are being energized in what speed. Then the problem can be solved. Typical arrangement for shift coils. Note the logic chart When A, D, and E coils are energized by the shift lever, the machine is Forward, 1st speed. When A and D coils are energized by the shift lever, the machine is Forward, 2nd speed. When just A coil is energized by the shift lever, the machine is Forward, 3rd speed. Likewise, B, D and E = Reverse, 1st. B and D = Reverse, 2nd. B alone = Reverse, 3rd. More questions are: What happens when the shift lever is in the 2nd speed position? Does it stay in the previous speed and direction it was in? Does the machine not move or does it come to a stop when put in 2nd? Does it stay (or go in to) 1st? Does it stay (or go in to) 3rd? Does it do the same in Forward and Reverse?
serial # shows 4239T Deere engine and T135L33 CAT trans
now the shift lever is 4 speed 1 and2 position its in first gear 3rd position nothing just like neutral 4 position 3rd gear and does the same in foreward and reverse.
I should have some info on the T135L33. Lull changed to ZF when the 644B was introduced. That is the drawing in my post. The T135L33 does not have the 4 coils as to my recollection. I don't have much experience with this transmission but I have my ways!
any more help on this ? would the relays under the dash have anything to do with this ?
This is the coil arrangement for the Cat 3-speed. There are four coils. The same type of shifting logic will be applied to this as explained in the above post. At this point, without a schematic to go by, I am not sure which coil is which. Check continuitity from the four coils up to the harness end at the control lever. Somewhere in the harness or at a connection will be an issue. Or perhaps a coil itself. You can check with an ohmmeter the out-of-circuit resistance of each of the coils. If one coil is way out of range from the others (shorted or open) then that would indicate a defective coil. edit: as for the relays, yes, the coils will probably be energized through a relay. You can try swapping relays to see if that is the issue. If it is not a relay problem, it could be in the wiring to and from the relay.
