hey there. bought a 951c cat loader. needs track adjusters. various parts. runs great. i cannot find a serial number anywhere on it. i can find part number on various parts of the machine, but not the main serial number tag. where should i look? if it is missing. how can i get the actual serial number traced down. machine has been painted a few times and i am not sure if its been covered over. i dont usually fool with track loaders. usually newer rear engine machines or no loaders in general. just excavators and dozers for the jobs.... is this a japanese machine? mitsubishi or cat american. i try to upload or attach a pic to this post but it rejects. what engine should it have? a 3204? the service and lube plate behind the door on side says traxcavator 941 951. thanks guys.
there are two places to look... the left-hand side near the back of the main diesel as well as the rear drive housing. these numbers should match, unless there has been changes. i have seen some advice that also suggests that the engine has another place on the flat service of the left-hand of the block where the oil pan bolts on.. try those.. another good forum for old CAT info is at this link http://www.acmoc.org/bb/ good luck... rod
serial number locations the back main diesel? did you mean main diesel tank? is there a number on the final drive housing? its weird to not see a serial number somwhere on the main loader frame like most equipment. thanks for the help! i will go to the site and look. anyone else have any advice? thanks!
Its got a 3304 pc engine pc= precombustion chamber.
The frame number and engine number will be different, they changed from being the same when the "D" prefix was dropped from the engine models, and as stated above, the 951C has the 3304 engine. The engine tag is still in the same place on the block.
Serial number plates are located: 1. On the rear face of the steering clutch case. 2. In operator's cpmpartment on lower right-hand dash plate. 3. The LH rear side of the cylinder block.

78Pxxxx is the engine serial number for a 3304 engine, 1972-up, most likely in an 86J model 951C but I don't have enough info to back your engine serial number into the actual year.
