Temp gauge in red light blinks alarm goes off .changed trans filters pressure washer rad and oil cooler, checked fan belts for slippage, need some ideas of things to check

Does it go into limp mode when this happens , and do you have any codes on the dash?

Hi farmall this could turn into a bit of indepth diagnosis or could be simple. start with basics decribe conditions it occurs at. load factor? abient air tempature? is it intermitent or constant. is oil level correct? is the oil the right viscosity? post serial number and will help you test oil tempature to make sure its not tempature sensing circut problem

Yes it does go into limp mode,is it actually over heating was my first thought but kinda ruled that out was thinking gauge and light use two different sensors, ser# 12ZN05318,unfortunately have not been at machine when actually overheating saps called out to other emergencies but asked operator to grab hose to cooler to see how hot or restriction in cooler line, weather conditions are normal typical east coast summer 80-90 deg only takes about 20 minutes when loading trucks out,I think I work ed on similar situation is there thermostat or regulator in filters housing, I'm at New company now they never had mechanic they don't like buying manuals stuff not talking care of just serviced trucks last time serviced was 24,000 miles ago.

Seams to be consistent conditions any time you work it hard to fill bucket ,oil level good ,not sure on oil just assume it has peak j20c tractor hydraulic fluid

Check out the various threads that have been posted on here regarding Cat 900-series hydrostat track loaders and the criticality of using the correct specification fluid in the hydrostat system.

Was there any metal in the filter? Hyd and drive use common oil on all C machined except the 973. Later Bob

From what I see for that s/n there is no transmission temperature sensor. There is pump drive and hydraulic temperature sensors. There is also transmission malfunction light. You can pull service codes with stwiches under right armrest. Hydraulic and transmission share same oil and return filter.

No metal or any contaminants looked clean I was surprised expected something else, so the light with gear and thermometer is drive motor temp the cat literature I have says trans temp

should be pump drive its the gear box between engine and pumps. check dipstick over filters on right side of machine. if oil level is over full will cause to over heat. had 963c pushed input seal out of hydrualic pump do to high lube pressure from worn pump. was over filling pump drive.

Even slightly over full mark on dipstick can cause this on a 2zn. 953c

Thanks for the input, is there something that regulates the flow of oil to cooler so it isn't cooled to much like in cold weather,

Does the dash have any fault codes showing up? That's the first place I would look. Then go from there. It could be showing abnormal voltage which will make it do all kinds of things , possibly a bad sender. But what codes are showing?

Flow from fixed out put charge pump is only reduced by loop loss from worn pumps and motors. Pump and motor condition can be checked by measuring cooler flow under load. Later Bob
