Hi, I have just purchased 955, there are a couple of issues and any help would be great. First the clutch lever will not stay locked in place when engaged and second the steering clutches are very heavy to operate, hopefully this is an adjustment issue, it's my first time with one of these and will be getting a service manual asap...thanks in advance any assistance

    What is the serial number?

Unfortunately there is no info in the online system, the model is too old. You're going to need a service manual or someone who has a 12A machine to help you.

Hi serial number 25A54, it's also difficult to engage gears, I am looking at getting a manual, would the 12A manual be suitable. Thanks

26A is an Australian-built 955. Production started in 1959 and with a Serial Number as low as 54 I would guess that your machine was also built in that year. Production of the 12A model that was badged 955C started in the US in 1955 so earlier than your tractor. I can't answer whether or not a 12A manual for a 955C will suit your machine but based on production dates it is possible. My best suggestion would be to join the ACMOC forum and ask there.

26A54 is a 955C, which was built in 1958, which was the first year of production for the Australian-built 26A. Production numbers in that year were 26A1 to 26A90. The 1958 U.S.-built 12A 955C, ran from 12A5377 to 12A5792, when it was superseded mid-year by the upgraded 955E. However, the S/No prefix did not change with the upgrade to the 955E, the S/No's were consecutive, so the first 955E was 12A5793, and the end of 1958 production was 12A6311. The major difference between the 955C and the 955E was the undercarriage was upgraded from using D4 undercarriage on the 955C, to using D6 undercarriage on the 955E. Hydraulic track adjusters were also included in the model upgrade. So if your 955 with S/No of 26A54 has D4 undercarriage, and has mechanical track adjusters, then it is comparable to 955C's, 12A5377 to 12A5792. But if your 955 has D6 undercarriage with hydraulic track adjusters, then it is comparable to 955E's, 12A5793 to 12A6311. Unfortunately, both the D6 and the D4 in this era used 6.75" (171.5mm) pitch undercarriage - only the track links were heavier, with a higher rail height, on the D6 undercarriage. If you give us some part numbers off the track links, we may be able to determine whether your tractor is running D4 or D6 track chains.

Hello, thanks for information, that explains the serial number. I will try the ACMOC forums and check the track chains, although I have a spare track plate from a d6 9u which has damaged crank which is slightly larger so I am thinking it has the d4d chains. Also someone has scraped d4d 60-62 0n the compliance plate so maybe another clue. Thanks again for your assistance Sparks
