963 21Z Lift and Curl Cylinders not Responding

JP963 ยท 2024-08-21 08:32

I recently had the hydraulic pump for the lift and curl cylinders rebuilt, having to drain the entire system to remove it. after reinstalling the pump the cylinders will not lift or curl. Motor does not even notice when controls are moved. i have cracked all the lines some air was released but nothing major and then the hydraulic oil just seeped out like there was no pressure building. any ideas what to check next?

Welcome to the Forums JP9! Glad to have you. Probably need to post a full serial number for the wrenches to figure out the exact version you have.

Did you prime the pump before you installed it? That something I always do.

I did not, but when i cracked the flange at the input and the out side of the pump oil was flowing out so the pump has oil.

Why was the pump rebuilt? Failure?

though the bottom flange was the cause of a leak, and while i had it out chose to rebuild it it, turns out it was one of the lines going into the right side final drive (separate hydraulic system). Shop that rebuilt pump said vanes where pretty worn out though.

Did you check with the rebuild shop if they pressure/flow tested the pump after the rebuild?

I have a call into them, i will make sure to ask this when i get ahold of them.

Shop said they did not pressure or flow test, is willing to go back through it if i bring it in.

sounds like a bad pump or maybe vanes are in backwards I had a cat loader that i replaced the pump on and it was assembled with vanes in backwards and would to the same thing

Ask if they are capable of doing a running pump test. Some shops aren't equipped for that.

It was the pump, pulled it and took it back to the shop had the vanes reversed for the rotation set for left vs right rotation or vise versa, got it back installed and the machine lives to fight another day. Thank you all for your guidance.

Not the most comprehensive shop. Would really suck if you were aways away or in the middle of nowhere with a crew waiting.
