i have a 973 cat loader serial number 86g00872. the steering on the machine works good until the oil warms up. When machine is in high idle in forward gear and you push the right steer pedal the machine will go in reverse. When you push the left steer pedal the machine will stop. Do you have any ideas as where to start?
Yes, the left side drive has very high leakage. When you steer right the RH side will slow, the harder you steer it will reverse to a max of 60 Pearcent of LH Side speed. If the LH dr I've is weak the RH will take it in reverse. Later Bob
what can I do to repair this problem?
Need to find the weak component of the two pumps and motors. I would suspect the motor, there is a test nipple on the case to connect a pressure gauge to. Lock the brakes(take off and plug the hose) from the LH side of HPCU to the cab support area. These light lines go down to the brakes. Then try to move machine. If you get it right the machine will not move and drive will load up. If the drive motor is leaking bad case pressure should raise above 5 PSI. Open filler to relieve case pressure first. Also use high pressure gauges first to make sure you have right connection. There is a top connection on motor for high/low servo (345 psi) . Load up drive with brakes on in both directions, check case pressure on both motors and compare. Then come back. Later Bob
