980g wheel loader steering problems

The steering will not stop steering to the direction the steering wheel is turned. It doesn't center back up or quit turning after you let go of the steering wheel. Has anyone ever had this issue with a loader?

Start by checking the shaft and u joints from the steering column under the cab down to the steering control on the frame. The ujoints can bind up if not greased.

Here is a list of problems from a 2KR 980G. Not sure if that is the s/n range you have. If you can provide the s/n I can check and see if I can find more details. Problem 2: The steering wheel will not return to the NEUTRAL position. The machine is steering all of the time. Probable causes: 1.The port plate in the pilot valve is binding. 2.One or both of the constant velocity joints that are in the steering shaft are binding. 3.The pilot valve spool is binding. 4.The cam and the follower for the pilot valve is binding. 5.The torsion spring in the pilot valve is broken.

If the steering wheel does not return to center its probably the pilot control valve binding then.

Has anyone tried to reseal the pilot valve? Or did this just start to happen?
