980K W7K00623 Is there a way to program the transmission through et to lock the machine in 1-3 so operators can only downshift? We are having an issue with people selecting 2-4 on the display or speeding in 4th. I realize finding better operators is the answer but that is a pipe dream in today's economy.
If you have access to Cat ET you can likely configure the maximum forward gear using the configuration tab.
Hook up ET and look in the Powertrain ECM Configuration screen. There will probably be programmable parameters for "Maximum Forward Gear" and "Maximum Reverse Gear". We used to do the same on all our big tracked tractors and blank off 3rd speed both forward and reverse in a bid to keep undercarriage in one piece. Question: Do you have any steep grades where you are operating.? If yes do the operators know the difference between the right and wrong way to descend grades so as not to burn up the service brakes.?
