A Few Bucket Tooth Buying Notes for New Guys

I came across some old bucket tooth buying notes while organizing my tools today. Figured they might be useful for those just starting out, so I'll share them here. Buying bucket teeth isn't just about giving the machine model — you need to get the part number straight first. Model info is usually printed on both sides of the equipment, and the nameplate is mostly attached to the outside of the cab or near the boom. It shows the manufacturer, weight, bucket capacity, production date, and so on. Reporting those details will basically keep you from making mistakes. Then look at the shape and mounting style. The tooth-and-adapter type connects the tooth to the bucket plate with bolts. The split type is a bit more complex — the tooth tip connects to the adapter with a pin, and the adapter is welded onto the bucket plate. This style is the most common one you'll see. Split types are further divided into horizontal pin and vertical pin mounting. Horizontal pins also come in side spring clip and center spring clip versions, and different manufacturers use different clip styles, so you need to match them up when choosing. For vertical pins, there are also a few common brand series that use this structure. One more thing that's easy to overlook is the tooth cavity size. The cavity is the hollow part on the tooth tip where the adapter inserts and gets fixed. The internal width, height, and depth all have to match the adapter, otherwise it won't fit or won't hold up. Simply put, part number plus machine model is the foundation, and then checking the mounting style and cavity dimensions will basically keep you from buying the wrong thing. Newcomers can keep these points in mind and avoid a few detours.
