well i have been doing some past over do repairs to my cat 941 track loader S/N 80H2365 and am servicing the peddle steering system. i left my parts book at work today so my question is are both the filters on top of the bevel gear housing for the peddle steering or is one a filter for the bevel gear? well the right side filter is a cleanable metal screen type of filter. I did not find any metal flakes etc in the filter, but i was junked up pretty good. the left filter is a replaceable filter that has a Napa part number 1161. I will be replacing it tomorrow after work. ok my question is how do you change the oil for the peddle steering or does it use the same gear oil as the bevel gear? on the bottom of the bevel gear housing i see 2 big drain plugs and one small drain plug on each side of the bevel gear.what drain plug drains what? i am guessing the 2 little plugs, one on each side are for the steering? not sure so i thought i would ask.sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.thanks Bobby
the screen and filter are for both steering and bevel gear.bevel gear and the steering clutches run in the same oil. the oil is draw from steering clutch/bevel gear compartment threw the screen then pump into filter oil then flows into the steering booster. all the plugs you see need removed to completely drain this oil .
hey thanks for the info. i thought that's how it was, but wasn't sure.thanks again Bobby
