Advice on setting up a grease standardization program on a fleet

alonzo · 2018-07-14 11:11

Hi guys. We have a fleet of equipment as follows: CAT Loader (992G; 992K; 988k;988H), CAT dozers ( D8R; D10T, D10T2); CAT trucks(777D;773G;773F); KOMAT’SU Trucks 785-7, KOMAT’SU Motor Graders (GD285-A); KOMAT'SU Bck hoe (PC-1250); Drilling machines ( SANDVIK D25ks and Atlas Copco (L8; DM45). I have been asked to study the standardization of grease for all those equipment, and standardization of lubrication references also for those machines. Does anyone have any advice they would like to share about setting things up? It would be great if you can provide any guidance. Thanks in advance.

Which machines out of the fleet that you list have autolube systems installed..?

Nige voiced my thoughts exactly! In my experience it is not so much the type of grease you use but more the frequency of the times you apply it. Autolube systems are cost effective even to retrofit onto new machines before being put into production.

That's where I was going John. Also I've found that the grease needs of something like a large FEL are far more demanding than for an off-highway truck. Plus the FEL needs grease more often than the truck.
