How far can pin and bushing be wore before they start to bend/ mess up the bushing bores . Are most parts the same on the 680vs 580 or are they all different
Bushings can have quite a bit wear on them before the pin starts to damage the bushing bore. They should never be allowed to get to that condition. Pins don't usually bend unless they slide part way out of position. Many parts from a 580 and a 680 will interchange. But, the parts are limited to hydraulic cylinders and their components and also pins and bushings. Quite a few Case hydraulic cylinder seal kits will fit a multitude of different machines. That would include dozers and wheel loaders as an example. A lot of pins and bushings are common to both.
Is there a specific amount of play between pins and bushings that's considered acceptable if it was measured with a micrometer? Hoping for a specific number in thousands of a inch. I know helicopter rod-end bearings on a Rotor head typically are allowed around 20" thousandth of an inch, depending on make and model, pilots are taught to be able to "feel" this amount of play during a preflight inspection without a micrometer. This is apples to oranges because if a bushing bore fails on a bucket you're not going to die, like you would in a helicopter when a rod end bearing (Lollypop) fails. I'm assuming a skilled operator knows what "excessive play" is, or the limit before excessively rapid damage starts to happen between the pin and the bore. A good wrench, may know the answer better than an operator? Thanks in advance.
LOL small world im a helicopter QA mech that now does farming and runs equipment slowly starting a company. IM trying to figure out how far i can run my backhoe till i have to start doing some repairs. before for they get to costly .. The case 680 i have is usable but will being digging in mud/water/ and hard rocks. which i know will increase the wear. ive been looking at the expander pins for the tail swing pin as it has a lot of wear and i want to limit it for now. then the rest i might just grease the heck out of for now. i need the 680 to last at least 3-5 years of farm work and odd jobs then hopefully it will be a back up then
The boom swing pin and bushing can have a lot of wear and still be usable, If it is greased at least twice a day if you are digging about 8 hours a day. If you cannot afford to purchase a new boom swing pin (quite expensive) at least replace the bushings ($20.00 each). Once the bore is damaged the bushings won't/ can't stay tight. The cost of a line bore job will bring tears to your eyes. Which letter model is your 680 ?
It’s a E model 680E I figured try and fix’s the wear before it will need a line bore . Ive been looking for aftermarket pins and bushing to save money and only buy case for the ones I can’t find. It’s getting here Saturday I plan to go though it Sunday.Monday order any parts. Grease clean change oil and will have to replace a few seals
