AW32 hydraulic fluid ok?

I have a case 580k backhoe and was wondering if AW32 hydraulic oil would be ok for the hydraulic cylinders of my backhoe. i understand that a TCH hydraulic fluid should be used for the transaxle. just wondering if any AW32 would be ok in the hydraulic system. i have a few leaks now and don't want to break the bank every time i start the machine. thanks for any info!

Well according to the specs it should conform to 10w/30 for Hydros. http://backhoedata.com/specifications/case-580k/case-580k-specs-13.php So most universal trans / hydraulic fluid should conform to this spec. Just look at the fluid manuf data. Good luck been busy this summer replacing my leakers (up to 6 hoses so far)...

thanks, i bought some universal fluid that has case specs. I too have been trying to stop leaks. replaced 6 hoses and have brazed two steel lines so far.

Hi, Please note that ISO viscosity for hydraulic oil (10, 15, 22, 32, 46, 68, 100...) is not related to motor oil (0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20, 30, 40, 50) or to gear oil viscosity (75W90, 85W140, etc). You can only compare the viscosity within one scale. Check http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/519029.gif for example. Viscosity is affected with the temperature, hence the 10W-30, where the 10W is measured in cold condition and 30 is measured in hotter conditions. From what I remember from going in Hawaii, you consider it cold when temperature drops to 78 F and hot when it goes to 88F. That is not a lot a temperature change! Here in Quebec, we get from -25C to +35C. So in the winter, some 32 is good (or even 22). In the summer, 68 is more appropriate. For people who don't want to change twice every year, they use 46 in hydraulics. So, from the expected weather in Hawaii, I'd guess 46 or 68 would be best. In all cases, you manual should be the reference. jf
